If you’re one of those people who does a lot of outdoor activities, or you know someone who does, this is a great app for all to have. Just-In-Case is a simple application which connects to the web interface of just-in-case.info/ to allow you to send an emergency email to someone who would be willing to help in the event of an accident.

If you’ve seen the movie 127 Hours, or heard of the incident before-hand, then I’m sure you are aware of just how dangerous traveling and doing dangerous activities alone can be. While we try our best to contact friends or loved ones beforehand, sometimes it doesn’t always go through and it’s always nice to have a backup alert with some additional information for them. Just-In-Case is an application which hopes to ensure that you always have some additional information for others when you leave: even if you go somewhere without service.

The application is essentially a mobile version of the website with the sole purpose of helping save lives. The website prompts you for a few pieces of information including an email address, subject, among a few other details. These can be filled out with information where you currently are, will be, or something similar. If you do not check in to disable the message ahead of time the message will send the information to the email address provided. The website and app allow you to set upto 10 messages at a time, which can be great if you’re going to be hitting a series of checkpoints and would like to alert whomever if you miss deadlines and did not disable the notification.

Best of all, the service, and application, are completely free and available on the Google Play Store. If you frequently go outdoors this is a great app to help keep you or your friend safe: be sure to mention this to anyone who could benefit.
